#Bodhidharma "The Father of Shaolin KungFu" was an "Indian #Pallava Prince" born in #Kanchipuram in India, as the third son to a Pallava Raja believed to be #Skandavarman_IV. Bodhidharma renounced his royal life and became a Buddhist monk. Upon instruction from his guru #Prajnatara, he travelled to China to spread #Mahayana_Buddhism. By around 520 AD, he reached south China, began the physical training of the monks of Shaolin Monastery that led to the creation of #Shaolin_Kungfu. He is known as #Dámó in China and as #Daruma in Japan. His name means "Dharma of Awakening (#Bodhi)" in Sanskrit.
